Kath and I spent some time pollinating peaches in the glasshouse at Glamis Castle this week. I hope we get some fruit, or Kath and I will get the sack! lol

You are right about that Paul in fact the tree has had a fleece drawn down in front of it for weeks ..
Oh Karen I hope not ! I've never Pollinated them myself I always leave it to the Bees , do you use a little hair brush ,I would love a proper lesson on pruning a peach tree ,do you do that ? if so you are welcome to come down for a holiday LOL ...
Thanks Carole /Paul / Mushy ,we still had a lot of Peaches on the tree last year when we went on holiday ,I picked them and froze them in slices ,it worked we had a Peach pie with them later !

Oh no! we don't prune it! We only tickle it! Yes, we use a soft artist paint brush, but the best thing to use is a feather as it's much gentler. We haven't seen a single bee in the walled garden yet Carole. I saw one here some weeks ago, but nothing since. :( Isn't it just awful....every time I think about it I want to curl up!

Ha Ha , I picked a fluffy feather up in the garden today just in case I need it Karen , do you go into one blossom after another with the same feather / brush ?

9 Apr, 2013

Yes, it's very simple, just as a bee would...disturbing the pollen and hoping it lands on the stigma...very easy.

Thanks Karen I shall be prepared if the Bees don't get busy ,I'm a little worried because I've been keeping a fleece down in front of the frame the tree is housed in because of the frosts ,normally at this time it would be open for the Bees to do their work ,it's open down the sides so they could get in .. fingers crossed we will soon be able to take it all off !
