Hellebores

Lovely hellebores ...
when do you take the seed .. ?
and what do you then do with the seeds ?
I hadn't thought of trying that.

Indeed lovely hellebores. I have not collected seed either. I would have thought it would be okay to allow them to self sow around the parent plants. Do let s know how you get on.

I'm not completely sure of the process, something I think I might have heard on Gardeners World a while ago, I'm just going to have a go and see. I will let you know what happens too.

I was unsure of the process so looked on the net and came across this link. It is very well illustrated at each stage of the process and I will definitely be trying it this year. As the seed pods ripen they go papery and I think rather than leave them on the plant I will use my normal method of seed collecting and cut the stems and place them in a paper bag and hang them up in the dry to finish the ripening process. http://woodridge.wordpress.com/2009/06/11/hellebore-propagation/

Thanks for that :). I also consulted the Gardeners World website, How to propagate Hellebores, and it goes thru all the stages too so we are all set up now, do let me know how it all goes :))

Will do. For those interested in collecting their own seed look out for the pods getting ready to throw out seeds around May.
