I'm so pleased to see this pretty Acer has made it through the winter. Bubble wrapped and fleeced all winter, I hoped I hadn't smothered it completely...:o))

I've placed it in a sheltered spot....supposed to be colder this weekend, so it may find itself back in the greenhouse!

i have had mine for about 4 or 5 years, its against a south facing fence [but not total sun because of shade from so many other trees] its now around 5 or 6 foot tall ~ i gave it no protection all winter and now its leaf buds are just beginning to open up

I've not protected any of mine either. They are all in plastic pots, but seem to be fine....just late!

That's heartening Sticki......it sounds tougher than I thought, this it's second year and only still small...

I dont get much east wind in this garden but it is on a hill, we had 4 or more inches of snow in march so its not totally protected!
kasy also has this acer ~ she knows more than me about plants and trees.

I find this one the toughest of all my Acers, yet was a bargain in Tescos a few years ago!

Beautiful foliage Janey , I have the one with the purple leaves ( I don't know it's name ) it's been outside all winter in a pot in a sheltered area ,it hasn't come to any harm ....

Thanks everyone....it does sound to be quite a hardy one then......I think I may plant it in the garden then, when it's grown a bit. To see it 6ft would be amazing I really love those leaves!
Ooh good Gralew! I've a feeling I bought it from Morrisons, so easy to find..:))
Yours sounds like Acer palmatum purpureum Amy...they are gorgeous....mine died in the winter of 2010...:((
