I love this tender bulb even when it's not blooming, but now that it has bloomed for the first time in my care it's even better!

Yes it has 6 petals, but this is pretty much fully open now.
It is special HB! But cost just a fiver (if I remember correctly) last spring from Cotswold Garden Flowers (which is not too far from Sticki!).

thanks meanie ~ i had forgotten about that place ~ i really must visit ~ hmmm wonder if i can manage a visit tomorrow ~ on the other hand i have been doing so much driving lately i could do with a day in the garden here!!

I agree........just dont bake a cake that has sweetened condensed milk in it!!!! My mum just did that with her new oven ~ didnt notice some of it had leaked out of the tin, so now it has burned on and wont come off!

I remember the first time I posted photos of this plant. They were growing wild and blooming in Balboa Park. I didn't even know the name of this plant. I think you may have identified it for me. I remember thinking it was a form of Polianthes tuberosa (Tuberose), which I know is very tropical and grows very well here.
