Are they Gladiolus Byzantinus Gattina? I have some in the front garden but they only flowered once, really must move them :o)

I read something online that suggested that in America you are encouraged to go and dig them up from the wild to plant in your garden, which rather shocked me. I do so hope that they flower again next year, Annella, yes, I think you're right: they must be G. Byzantius.
