We've had this for about 4 years and it never seems to get any bigger. How do you get them to grow tall?

It is definitely a tree fern Youngdaisydee. For some reason it's throwing out leaves all over the place but not on the top of the original stump like everyone elses seems to. At least it's not dying so I should be grateful I suppose :-)

Wait about 100 years I'm afraid- I made the same mistake!

Oh NO!! So I'll never live to see it..... Isn't that just typical :-( We usually go for the smaller cheaper plants and wait for them to grow. Definitely not the best option this time Popeymike!

Just enjoy it for what it is- I'm resigned to not seeing mine grow much either. Perhaps I should have it planted on my grave!

That's a good idea!

Thanks marguerite, I do like it but I just wanted it to grow taller:-) I've already looked at your pics of tree ferns, I'm envious. Like you say though,I'd struggle to protect it during winter, we'd have to raise the greenhouse roof!!

Mine has survived several years without protection-global warming?

Do you put yours in the greenhouse over winter Popeymike?

Hi Joannie, Are you sure its a Tree fern?
The trunks are very slooooow growing, but the Fronds do grow quite large. mine is about 2ft, and the fronds are about 4ft (wild guess), i bought it last year and the trunk looks the same size, but the fronds are noticabley larger..I love my Tree Fern hehe :)
