Not so tall as straggly Chris. Looked out the label and it gives height and spread as 50cm - which is probably about right.
If you want to give it a go - I'd happily split some of for you to try.

I guess all Himalayan plants are hardy, or is that stupid?

Scottish that is so kind of you but don't want you to have to go to that trouble for me :-)

Now your asking Mouldy....I don't really know but I suspect they can and have to cope with a bit cold. It would be the wet that might do for them though!
It's no trouble Chris, if you change your mind let me know.

I see what you mean.
I think it was Bjs that pointed out they can take being blanketed in a layer of snow or ice, but come the thaw the angles of the mountains ensure the run-off pours away from the roots.
If memory serves me I ventured the idea of drawing the soil into peaks & troughs, in wetter climes, with the plant being bedded atop the peak, recieving the sun & encouraging root growth to reach the water at the base of the trough.
I probably missed the response, due to my health a while back.

That's exactly how I understand it and how it was explained to me too. If you learn a plants natural habitat and can create it then you've a better chance of success.
I've just got to hope I can keep the wet of the alpines in my troughs now. Haven't quite got round to making something up yet but thanks that you've given me a reminder to get the thinking cap on!

Hi .I am really new to you but have learnt much already.I grow a lot of the cranesbill geraniums as they come in so many sizes and colours, even have a tiny alpine one.also they seem.pest and disease free.
This one is a really pretty blue.I have recently started to grow some in pots and containers and they are romping away.
Enjoy the sun whilst it is . H e 're

Welcome to Goy!
So, what would you prefer, Kim, Penstemon or an abbreviation of Penstemon?

How about flexible wastepipe, like plumbers & foresters use?
B&Q or plumbers merchant.
Placed at the bottom of the troughs & cut to length, so it overhangs the rim with a bung to prevent evaporation, then growing medium covering it.

It needs to provide protection from above mouldy. Umbrella type of thing. I've go a lid worked out just need to figure out how to suspend it so the air can still circulate.

Oh. Lol.
I thought you meant watering.
Hang on...deja vu...we've discussed this before, haven't we?
Problematic.
Just the rain is easy, but a heavy wind could cause havoc!
How heavy are the troughs?
4 Sep, 2013
Yes we did - I was thinking Deja vu as I was typing.
Troughs are very heavy - no wind will shift them, she says with her fingers crossed. Far too heavy to move elsewhere, that's for sure!
I rigged a thing up for the oblong shaped one today need to have a wee trapse around b&q for something for the round one at the weekend!

Just a matter of watching the wind doesn't lift the 'roof' off, then. ;-)
