...or they might end up at Glamis, where it's always that bit warmer in the walled garden!

Do you keep yours in Pots Karen I was planning on planting mine in the garden, apparently as long as you protect the stems they should come through the winter I'm going to keep this one in a pot this year .
What a shame David I didn't know that ! we didn't set out to go there we went to my half brothers at Wymondham the sale was a surprise , it was pouring with rain so didn't have a good look round the nursery looked as if it needed a good going over and some money spending on it ....

They've been in pots all year. I'd like to get them in the ground, but I think they'll be in pots for at least another year!

I've had one in the ground for 5 years Amy, about 8ft ish tall now. It lost about 3ft of top growth in the hard winter 2 years ago, the stumps branched out well but having its top frozen out encouraged it to produce lots of suckers up to about 10ft from the main plant. They have not been to difficult to remove though and many are now growing in friends gardens. I still have a couple in pots growing much slower than in the ground. :o)

Thanks for that Ph. I shall know what to look out for ! since that winter do you do anything to protect it to stop it happening again ?

Mushy it should, it is hardy.

Yes A, I put a fleece bag over it when the weather was at its worst to try and keep the height :o) it was about -12 here last winter and the new shoots come from the top fine :o)

That's what I paid for mine...I have three and they have grown from the size yours is to be about 4' across, but only a couple of feet high so far. IF they survive this winter I shall have to think about investing in some huge pots for them so I can keep them against the south facing wall!
