I've heard it called ' laundry weed' the roots are supposed to give a sweet smelling suds...(the saponin) and the aroma is just wonderful. It's a memory trigger for me because my Grandad had it growing all around the porch of his cottage on Muskoka Lake...every day in summer I'd zip across the road, hot foot across the blacktop, with towel in hand to swim...and as I passed the porch the smell would waft. It came to say "summer" to me... a very specific memory. :-)
