The Last Judgment.

Where is this cathedral? Do you know about when it was built?

Thanks for posting Katarina. Last I was in Prague (mid 90's) the church was under restoration but I took my husband to the cemetery there. He is a fan of some of the Czech composers.

Wells@this is tympanon on the main entrance to the St. Peter and Paul´s basilica at Vysehrad, Prague. It is something like national shrine, as this is the oldest inhabitated place in Prague and has national cemetery, where are all important Czechs (but also Slovak in the history) buried/were buried in the history.

Additional info for Wells: (hope you do not mind Katarina)The Last Judgment is a very old subject in art history represented by many artists. Michelangelo's painting is in Vatican's Sistine Chapel. This one at St. Peter and Paul´s church in Prague was carved in 1901 by Stepan Zalesak . The two high Gothic towers were added between 1902-03 but the church (basilica then) was built in the 11th century by the first Bohemian King Vratislav II. Long and interesting history about this building can be googled Wells.

There is another famous mosaic of Last judgement scene at the St. Vitus cathedral in Prague's Castle area.
Prague is a wonderful city full of art and interesting history, if one is inclined that way, In my time there an artist (any kind) had much bigger status than any other occupation.
I hope Katarina will agree with me.

If I remember correctly there is a scene depicting the Last Judgement at Saint Elizabeth(?) cathedral in Kosice in Slovakia. I was on the business there in 90's.

Thank you very much, Klahanie, that was very detailed! I didn t know that tympanon is so recent. Well, the Last Judgment is present in many Roman style churches, not just those you mentioned.
