Last year mums

I bought a large plant last year for our entrance porch and left it outside all winter (and summer). It is not as beautiful as last year but nevertheless still attractive right now.
Mums were considered one of the four Chinese "noble plants" (the others being bamboo, the plum, and the orchid). They were prohibited in a lower-class person's garden.
In Japan a single chrysanthemum petal placed in the bottom of a wine glass encourages a long and healthy life. :-)
In Italy, chrysanthemums are acceptable only for funerals :-(

These are lovely Klahanie. Nice to have any colour at this time of the year isn't it?
I bought plugs last summer (2012) and they should flower this year, all things going well that is!

Hi Katarina, yes, mums is a short for chrysanthemums(the last 4 letters)
Thank you Jane and Terra for your comments. and everyone for liking.
Scottish, I plant everything for spring, I want to see lots of colours when we come back from Mexico in April. I do not have much colour in the fall...not like you, everything seems to be re-blooming in your garden.
Lucky girl.

Mums is a short of chrysanthemums, Klahanie? Thank you for that interesting information on its cultural differences. As you probably know, in Central Europe chrysanthemums are typical flowers in cemeteries in November. Sending you one of my favourite songs "Chrysanthemums of November"
