Weed or not?

Weed or not?

This lovely thing looks perrenial. There were about six others that looked like seedlings followed by a wide flat clump. This one stood alone and shot up midsummer to bloom in tiny pink and yellow slippers, at least that is what I see. I found one deep in the woods so it could be natural, but I question it.

Corydallis sempervirens Joe...native in your parts. Isn't it a beauty?! Saw it recently on a stand at a flower show and the nurseryman gave us some seed for free. Generous people gardeners.. :)) I think it is perennial.

Thank you! Named! :-) It really has a presence. I've been watching it interested since the sprouts. Of course the new garden was only weeded once I'd identified what it was. This was my last unknown. Never know what will put itself in a garden that you can just spoil into staying!

Glad the man gave you seeds, they were what was scaring me Karen. They remind me of our fireweed so I knew it could spread like mad if let go. Now I must start saving seeds myself, to spread around....

Oop! My books say introduced species, sister to our native Corydallis aurea which I recognized once I got pointed the right way. :-) I'll keep saving seed so it doesn't get wild.

Nice flowers! Some of our native "weeds" are very nice to look at - after all what is a weed other than a plant in the wrong place! in that case a rose in amongst the cabbages would be a weed & vice versa!

I welcome it but will continue restraint. I left the ones I found in their first year so all six should bloom next year and in a better spot. :-)
