Boletus mushroom family

These boletes are edible and we have lots of them around. I have never seen so many mushrooms as this fall.
We do not pick them.

I was recently listening to one expert who said that ten yers ago there was done genetic discovery, according o which mushrooms are much more animals then plants. Some are hunting, too.

I did a self study on fungi this summer Katarina (I was interested in Molds..... strands of cells called hyphae.) You are absolutely right. Fungi come in a variety of shapes and sizes and different types like mushrooms.
In the past, scientists thought they were plants but now have found that, at the cell level, the fungi are more like animals than they are like plants. They eat other organisms as do animals.
Fungi absorb nutrients from living or dead organic matter that they grow on. They absorb nutrients, such as sugars, through their cell walls. They give off special digestive enzymes to break down complex nutrients into simpler forms that they can absorb.

By the way, this sort of mushrooms I have plenty in my garden, but I was told they are not edible, although they aren t poisonous too. Do you know its Czech name?

they look delicious!!! yes we have had many a mushroom too...ive never in my whole life seen so many...even as a child....and i lived near many a wooded area.....
