Glad you like it, ladies! :-)) It's been flowering for two weeks now & within a few days they will have died off till next year!

I have around 50 pots, some with 3 or 4 bulbs in them, so I will have plenty more to come. :-))

Another of your seed grown ones?

Yes, Meanie, all the Amaryllis you see on here are from my own hand pollinated seeds & grown on over the past 8 or 9 years. I don't have any bought bulbs.

I do have two bulbs that were send to me by a lady on another gardening forum I post on a couple of years ago. One is a HUGE pink & the other has yet to flower.

I have around 50 pots but many times that number of actual bulbs because in most of the pots there are another 3-4 or more smaller bulbs!!!

I must confess that I bought one a few weeks ago - Amaryllis Green Goddess. £3.59 in Lidl. Large bulb too at 25cm in circumference!

Congratulation, Meanie, you'll be hooked by it in no time! The bulbs in this are are around £5 in the supermarkets, boxed up & ready to flower.

There is no Lidl in this area or I might have a look. I'd love to add something a bit different to my collection! Though I do have a huge pink one sent to be by a lady on another gardening forum I post on. It's aptly named 'Pinky' & I'm looking forward to it flowering again next year.

I've joined some Amaryllis forums on Facebook & I'm posting to them as well. You get to see people's Amaryllis from all around the world & I've seen some real beautiful ones!!! :-)) Among them your 'Green Goddess'! I only have pink, red & whites, red. All grown from my own seeds.

Are Hippeastrum as shy to bloom after repotting as some of the other members of the Amaryllidaceae family? I ask as my Hippeastrum "Chico" has signs on offsets which I would be happy to share.

2 Dec, 2013

They do like to be a little potbound as it seems then they flower better. The advice I've read says to repot them only into a pot a little bigger. You can of course leave the offsets to grow in the same pot as I've done. Obviously after a couple of years the bulbs need separating & that is what I'd like to do with my bulbs in the spring. Some of them are only producing one scape with two flowers a sign they are suffering from overcrowding.

Thanks!

I'll repot it next spring and let you know about the offset.

I'd be very interested to hear how they develop as well! :-))

Glad to hear about that, Scotkat! They are the easiest of plants to grow but so satisfying when they flower - year after year after year! :-))

Hi D it's bloomed and been beautiful I got 2 flowers ,I going past now the 2 still in bloom and a 3rd bud just about to open.

5 Feb, 2014

I now have one stem with a bud that is starting to open, it will be red. The red ones always seem to be the first to open! I also have a 2nd bulb that has a bud that has just started to come out of the neck of the bulb.

A few days ago I repotted all the bulbs that I had on our bedroom windowsill. I ended up with a lot more bulbs than I know what to do with! They have already started into growth! They had been kept dry without a drop of water since the last day of August last year.

I cleaned off the roots & the dry papery shell around the bulbs then repotted them with new compost. I expect a lot of them will flower again but I'm not too sure if they will do so again next year or will jump a year.
