That's gorgeous! I've never seen one bloom like this here in San Diego. In Hawaii C. fistula commonly blooms like your tree.

I think it might be our long dry season that brings on the best blooming, Andy. They do very well here and look spectacular at this time of the year all over the city.

That is gorgeous, love it.

We get long and very dry weather. The reason here in San Diego, CA. is the spring weather is too cool and cloudy for them to bloom. They don't bloom well until summer (July).

Thanks Bjs. This tree is a bit of an ugly duckling for most of the year, but turns into a stunning swan during the summertime.

Bernieh:
That's funny you bring the "ugly duckling" look of this tree up. I think this is maybe why Cassia leptophylla is the most popular Cassia species growing here. I think it looks great almost all year. It's so widely used in the landscape and as a street tree here in San Diego, CA. and throughout Southern California.

Yes the poor old Cassia fistula does look so ugly for the rest of the year once flowering is finished. I would say that is the primary reason it probably doesn't quite make it as a landscape choice.

I would definitely agree.
