American Goldfinch

The only finch in its subfamily that undergoes a complete molt, the American Goldfinch displays sexual dimorphism in its coloration; the male is a vibrant yellow in the summer and an olive color during the winter months, while the female is a dull yellow-brown shade which brightens only slightly during the summer. The male displays brightly colored plumage during the breeding season to attract a mate.

I'm glad you like it Klahanie. In the summer I always have sunflowers growing up to my window so I can watch them while eating breakfast. Very cool!

Aren't they fantastic Thrupennybil? It's always a treat to see them in my garden. They love sunflowers so I make sure I have them growing.

They certainly are and fit their name too gold. The most wild coloured bird we have here in the uk is the Kingfisher a sight to see, when its sitting on the edge of a tiny branch and then dives into the little river.

Arent they songbirds? I remember as a child a little old lady had some in a big aviary with Canary's. Those were the days when you could keep native animals..1964 or so.

They do have a high pitched mating call, almost like a canary, but not quite the range. It's still enjoyable to hear.
