Karen that standard is Arthur Bell, golden yellow turning to lemon as it matures, very pretty rose.

Thanks Rose.

Thrupenny this is its third year now so hopefully they will be very pretty this summer, they were lovely last year :O)

Thanks Melchi :O)

I have always fancied standard roses. Perhaps I will have a couple here eventually.

Roses are always the best in my opinion Oliveoil as they bloom through out the summer if dead headed.

Karen you can grow them in large tubs maybe down the edge of the driveway would be pretty, with maybe a low trellis fencing in between the pots, although you have lots or room to plant things in the garden itself. They do come in various heights also, depending on which rootstock you get them on. This I think is a little bit too tall for this border but I do like the colour of it. You can get cascading roses too they would like nice.

Yes Thrupenny they are a big bonus in the garden, I love roses, in fact I dug some more grass out last year and planted up a rose bed by the seating area. Great for perfume too. :O)

Beautiful!

thank you Michaella, and hello, we have not met before, good to see you :O) how is America this morning?

Hi Barbara :)))

26 Feb, 2014

Lol! I like the height of your rose because it allows lots of light to get underneath. On the drive in large pots sound a good idea actually....but Rachel would probably crash into them. She's so funny, sometimes she just forgets to stop in time. Just as well we have hedge, not wall! :S

You're right, I have room. The sun is just skimming the back deck this afternoon, so we may well have sun there for the summer months, which will be lovely. Scott has painted my swing seat, the bench, and the new planter this afternoon, and they are all looking fab. The back garden , which was an eyesore, is now beginning to look pretty! :)) I'm so glad I bought those snowdrops!

I'm using the turf to alter the shape of the front patio border. We've some old planks which I am going to peg and use to make a new edge! and then infill with the turf from the back. The border will be straight...following the line of the house and patio. It's a totally new venture for me...straight lines!! Lol! It needs altering as the shape is awful at the moment, and the border is too deep. This is going to be my herb and scent border....can't wait! X

Ooooer that sounds exciting Karen, look forward to seeing it all, I never used to like straight lines but am now beginning to discover them here, not many just a couple but they can be shaped, with dog leg bends in them. lol. and they are never truely straight in this garden anyway. lol.

27 Feb, 2014

Yes, it will be a challenge getting it straight, because if it's off, it will bug me so much, and I'll probably need some OCD meds!

27 Feb, 2014

hence why I do curvy, but if it is not just right I am on the meds. lol. Family failing, Sammie and Sarah are both the same too. lol. so you can blame me for those genes. lol :O)

Now I do like that, funny thing I have got fed up with our circle of grass and wondering what I could do with it, OH is going to have a fit lol!! going on my favourites, because I am sure we could do this........

Thanks K......well you can inform him lol

I'm in enough trouble! I've ordered from Long Acre today, AND been to the GC...eek!

2 Mar, 2014

I am constantly tempted to cut a new bed in my circle of grass (not sure I dare call it "lawn") but the fact that I can run the mower over it to tidy it up in a few minutes is what persuades me to leave well alone!

2 Mar, 2014

lol :O) what are you like, spend spend spend. lol.

DD just show him the pictures and let him loose. lol.

Melchi the less grass is best for me I hate cutting grass. lol I never call this a lawn for the same reasons. lol. I have plans to take out a LITTLE bit more this summer. :O))

How could I leave those tete a tete at £1 a pot of three? Ten pounds spent on plants that will last longer than me and brighten every spring ....and a basket of six good lavender for ten pounds...bargain for the scented border! Would have been remiss of me not to buy them....saved a fortune!

2 Mar, 2014

Of course K you must a have saved ..............well shall we leave it there!!

2 Mar, 2014

I am waiting to spend until the weather picks up, although I think there is little space left and I shall have to buy a shoe horn first if I buy any more plants. lol.
