Tropical ferns are some of my favorite plants and maidenhair fern is one of the nicest looking of all of them. It was growing everywhere in the tropical conservatory and made a great groundcover. It was even growing between the cracks of sandstone lining the pathways (and the cracks of the walkway).

Is it lovely fern or lady fern (Athyrium)? I am only curious because I have never heard the common name lovely fern.

This is a tropical fern that wouldn't survive here even in the best of winters but it does fine indoors (as long as it's in a terrarium or has lots of humidity)

thanks, Rkwright. I've only tried growing it indoors (note "tried").
and thanks again: I was trying to think what the word was for a "fern house"!

I have tried and failed with a number of ferns indoors, some of them are really difficult unless the conditions are near perfect. The only way I can grow Selaginella (club moss), Dizygotheca (Aralia) and a lot of ferns is in a terrarium.
