Lake Superior shoreline

One of the reasons I like going to the Upper Peninsula is the thick forests. Driving down a lot of the roads up there, you feel like you're driving through a tunnel because the woods are so thick. It was hard to get good pictures on a moving boat but I like how you can see the birch trees and the different colors of emerging spring foliage. The forests in the northern part of the state and near the shorelines are almost entirely evergreen with a lot of white spruce, arborvitae, balsam fir, canadian hemlock and pines.

I guess they could be monotonous but I like that they are green in the winter and the white birches look pretty too. The worst part is a lot of shade and mosquitoes, horse flies and black flies. I really enjoy how quiet, peaceful and undisturbed everything is up there. I've never liked being in towns or cities for very long, I was made for country living. I'm so used to having neighbors a mile down the road that it even drives me crazy having people who live next door to me now haha

one might think that conifer forests would be a bit monotonous, but the colours here are beautiful - and new growth on the foreshore means that the display will continue for a long time
