It is a beautiful tree. I wish I could grow it on Vancouver Island.
Thank you for your comment Bathgate.

Thank you for for your comments, ...the colour of its flowers is what makes it so attractive. Our house is on the hill and I can see the number of them standing out in the landscape.

When I saw these in South Africa, I picked up a few seeds hoping that I might grow a miniature tree here, but they obviously need a lot more warmth!

LOL Sheilabub, I am trying to do the same thing every year (bringing seeds of various plants home) but never had any success. Some germinated but died later. :-(

Beautiful. I'd try to do the same thing re it's seeds but I guess it just wants to grow in it's native home. Shame!

The whole village is laced by these trees Dottydaisy, it is quite a sight. But we are now back in Canada and are cleaning all the mess winter left behind. It is a big job for us.... every spring.

It's one of my favorite trees. They're blooming here in San Diego, also.
The 50' (15m) tree in my front yard hasn't bloomed yet, though. For some reason it always starts to bloom in late April.

Feverfew; Klahanie:
Jacaranda usually grows very easily from seed. I have seedlings popping up in my front yard almost every year. They need to be kept on the dry side through winter. I know here in large pots they can bloom. I don't think they will bloom indoors, though.
The City of San Diego used to give Jacaranda trees to anyone who wanted one, here in San Diego (not sure about now, though). It's one of the most widely grown street trees here. There's millions.

I could not find any around here in GCs, that means they will not grow here Delonix1 and no way that they could be grown inside they are so messy. They start to bloom in February in the place we go to. But really in full bloom in March.
Post a picture of yours when in bloom Delonix.

Yes, Jacaranda would not grow outside as a tree on Vancouver Island, as it's a subtropical tree. It can be grown as a indoor small tree and outdoors in summer. Most likely it would not grow taller than 5' (1.5m) tall plant in a pot there.
I have posted the most Jacaranda photos on GoY.
Here's the Jacaranda photos on GoY. You'll notice the majority of them were posted by me. There's 5 pages worth.

Thanks. I think I could be allergic to their blooms.

You're welcome. That's strange, most Jacarandas don't have a lot of pollen...especially compared to other flowering trees.
You're correct when you say Jacaranda trees can be very messy. They loose their leaves in late winter just before they start developing their flower spikes. Then the flowers are messy when they start falling; however, it's all worth it. The beauty of the whole city becoming blue/lavender is breath-taking.
Many other species are starting becoming popular in Southern California....especially, J. cuspidifolia, which has much darker blue-purple flowers.
