View across the garden

Mmmm more grass than I thought, maybe a bit more on that daylily bed, lol.
You can't see in the picture but the magpies are making a nest in the horse chestnut at the bottom left of the picture not a bird I really welcome but I'm certainly not stopping them that trees a bit tall to climb, the arch leads down a hill to our small wood and another smaller garden at the bottom :-)

Thanks Karen the lawn's Robs domain lol, there is a lot of moss in it, the birds have been doing a bit of scarifying over the past couple of days for nesting I assume :-)
Thankyou Dawn thats quite a compliment I love your garden ;-)
It is a great view :-) the hedges are getting a bit to tall now though they do make a good wind break as we are very exposed but they've got out of hand, Rob retires next year so he's going to have a go at hedge laying, that should be fun I can imagine the language now lol.

Oh yes, lots of room to make another daylily bed. I have been leaving just enough room to get a lawn mower through.

I knew you'd be with me on that one Wylie ;-)

I might go down that route eventually as well. Cutting grass, scarifying it, de-weeding it...all very hard work. Much easier to grow plants than grass!

The hedge laying will be fun Kathy Our son did a course on that .... our grass is hard work at the moment OH has been scarifying and re-seeding patches but I do like to see some grass between the beds !

My Dad was a good hedge layer, learnt the skill when he was a farm labourer. We were going to have a go with our hawthorn hedge that we set around 12 years ago - its on the left hand side of the woodland - one day I went up and couldnt believe my eyes, the neighbour had cut it down, we were letting it grow up ready! Pete is a good neighbour, I say a neighbour, his house is about a hundred yards up the road but his orchard adjoins our woodland, he didnt know of our plan. You have to get some straight uprights going ready to lay, I believe.

Blimey, if that's a good neighbour, I'm glad I don't have any bad ones! ;)

Ha ha Karen, he gave me loads of snowdrops bulbs the other day, I think he thought he was doing us a favour at the time when he cut the hedge, I'm not that bothered really.

Its going to take him a while Amy that's why he's saving it for his retirement lol, said he's not spending all his holidays doing it, we could do with your son Robs been reading up on it but not tried any yet.
Yes Dawn that's what Rob tells me when I say how high its getting, he's not lying then lol, ours has been in 12 years too, what a shame about yours, mind you I cut a bit along the front drive last year and its as tall again now,he'll need some pretty thick gloves with all the hawthorn and blackthorn in it, you've been snowdrop planting then I planted another 500 a couple of weeks ago and 100 aconites, this week I've been splitting some big clumps, amazing how many you can get out of one large clump :-)

That's good then!

Wow Kathy, you've been planting lots of bulbs, takes ages, doesnt it but worth it, well, thats what I keep telling myself. Yes, when you split a clump, its amazing how many you can replant. Rob isnt lying, lol. Yep, it soon grows, unfortunately, watch out for those blackthorn thorns, they can be infectious, get the glauntlets on.
