Water Fountain

Water Fountain

This photo was taken in 2008. The pump was damaged by frost that winter, so it has been out of action since then. I have now fitted a new pump and hopefully it will be back up and running this summer. Could anyone suggest please, how to keep pigeons away from the feature, as they drink out of it, then use it as a toilet! ....... I have to clean it out regularly :~(((

Hello Alan ..
That's a pretty fountain ...
re. the pigeons... maybe put a container of water not too far away, but a little nearer to the ground. You might be able to position the alternative water in a place more attractive to pigeons, and thereby attract them away from your fountain.

I love the Water Feature and the Beautiful Rhodie behind makes a perfect backdrop! I havent any other tips on keeping the pigeons out of it, I have the same problems with my Bird Baths!

Hello Homebird , thank you for taking the time to comment. There are several other possible "watering holes" in the garden, but for some reason they aren't so thirst quenching ... For some reason :~)

It's lovely - would it be practical to have something floating in the water, if it's bobbing around it might put them off landing there.

Great idea ... I'll run some trials when I get it up and running. We have some large gold and silver Christmas baubles that we hang outside on a tree at Christmas for a bit of fun. I will modify them so that they don't fill with water and see if this deters them. Bit like milk bottle tops on string, to keep the birds off crops. It may work, thanks Angie for the suggestion.

Thanks Sue, fingers crossed, I may have a solution to the "pigeon problem" as recommended by Angie (Scottish). .... I hope to be up and running for the summer, I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi Hb .. The good old days heh! I don't suppose green/blue or red plastic would be as effective somehow.
