That's just what mine are like Holly! So excited to see them at last! Still waiting for my mini ones though...this one of yours looks like it's going to be lush!

It is always good to see them reappear as I tend to doubt that mine will come back again!
I was advised to put slug pellets around them on Valentine's Day each year to deter the little pests even before the new shoots have arrived.

Mine seem to be all at different stages some fully open some still like yours Holly, think I've lost one though probably the dry summer last year that did it knew the spot I planted it was to dry, why didn't I move it!!!

wildrose, I was wondering if mine were ok, then suddenly they started to pop thtough, I try not to use slug pellets because of the birds....
