lol Scottish, that was the people before me. Sadly they're very close to the fence, one of them so close htat it's actually in the gap between my fence and next door's.

not sure what they're supposed to "do", unless the spikiness is a deterrent - lol don't think I need it, as next door this side is in her 80s

They are good for the bees and birds. They produce tiny flowers loved by the bees and later in the year the birds eat the berries.
They grow flat up against a wall or fence if they are planted close enough.
Have a Google for it, there are some beauties out there.

thanks dear. I did notice the berries disappearing, but wasn't sure how much of htat was due to them just falling off.
