Carole if left it will grow up to 20ft in 10 years, but I`m hopeing that I can keep it cut back - don`t know anything about acers but hope this is possible.lol.

Nice plant looks good and strong, are you planting it out or putting in a larger container
Just for the record Homebase had lots of small named Acers including Orange Dream @ £4.00 each today they looked sound but would need care through next winter.not a patch on yours.

Lovely - I've a similar one called Eddisbury Stroller. Those red stems (common name Coral Bark Maple) make a lovely statement in winter.
I see Bjs had told you about Orange Dream in Homebase - I picked mine up in Tesco a few years back. It was incredibly cheap but of all my Acers, it's the one that's been least bother!

Thanks Brian and Scottish - never thought to look in the big stores but wouldn`t mind having a go at nurturing a small one.
Brian I was going to put it in a pot but now think I might move a small Osmanthus burkwoodii and plant it in its place where it will get a sunshine but be protected from the wind, I shall also see it from the kitchen window and in the winter shall enjoy its bright coloured stems.

Lovely Acer Stroller, they grow well in pots and in the soil.
I give my little trees a light prune to keep the size down. Some of mine are in full sun and some part sun and shade. I give my little trees in the pots a general feed a few times in the summer. The others get a feed when I feed the flowerbeds. Everyone has their own methods of looking after their trees and plants. Just make sure that if the trees are in pots to water them on a regular basis.

Very graceful Phyll, lovely. When I went to Fourseasons garden they told me they prune their acers twice a year! They all looked wonderfully healthy. I always worry about ruining the shape. They even had a cloud pruned acer:-)

Thanks all its great when you get such positive feedback. I`ve decided to put it in a large pot in the corner of the patio standing against an orange rose `welcome` and a pale yellow rose `malvern hills` and pots of orange and yellow begonias ... This corner has had a bit of a tweek so should brighten things up.

It reckon that's a fair price for such a strong big Acer Phyl. One of my favourite Acers. Mine gets a bit of die-back every year, and it grew very happily in a pot for 6 years or so. I've planted it in this garden, so hopefully it will be ok. I had a lot of dieback this year, but as it was planted and then moved in late winter I think that's to be expected. I love the coral bark in the winter. It's better than a Cornus!
