blue garden not living up to its name

I am sorry, but - honestly - do you 1) Prepare the soil for seeds 2) does that corner have enough sun? As poppies love sun throughout the whole day. Just thinking what could have been the problem.

Definately not blue but rather pretty really Fran. I like your compost bin. Looks a lot better than our concrete one which is starting to fall apart at the corners.

I did dig the bed thoroughly, Kat, and carpeted it with seeds after I'd planted all the narcissus bulbs I could cram in. I didn't plant the Welsh Poppy, it must have migrated there, and since it's flwoering I assume that it's happy there. it gets enough sun for the Poppy to thrive, anyway!

I got the composter via my old council, Dorjac - they were doing them for a fiver, and wormeries, but I wasn't sure what they were at the time. as my old "garden" was mostly paved, i had to park it in a corner, so that at least some of it would be over soil. but there wasn't much variety of content - I didn't have clippings or prunings to put in, as I have now.

Does your local council offer composters cheaply? you might get a spare - some GoYers have said that they have more than one, though where to put them in a smaller garden would be a prob.

and yes, a "yellow garden" looks nice as well!

They do offer compost bins at intervals Francis. I think they are rather more than a fiver. Our bin is years old and fraying at the edges. I lack the strength to do anything about removing it. I would love to get rid of it today if I could! We have a wood pigeon nesting over the garden path in the hawthorn tree. Lots of thin sticks keep raining from above. The whole of its tail sticks out over the nest edge. The nesting blackbird is raising ever higher as Mr Blackbird homes in with lots of wriggly worms. I can see yellow beaks on either side of mum. When it was cool and wet yesterday she fluffed herself up like a souffle so she really kept them warm. Very good mum compared with previous ones. Easy to see without getting too intrusive.

well, I got mine about 3-4 years ago now, Dorjac, even the cut price must have gone up since then. and they delivered, which saves the hassle of getting one home.

that wood pigoen sounds like a "first time home ownder"!! does the male or female build, or is it a joint effort? either way, I suppose it's a matter of practice. the blackbirds sound nice, have you been able to get any pics? mum blackbird sounds like she's had experience - keeping the kids dry at her own epxense.
