A pair of these beautiful birds come in for the Sunflower hearts almost daily. Love to watch them feeding.

Lovely, had these birds all winter, they've stopped visiting now - of course just after I ordered and took delivery of a 25kg bag of sunflower hearts!!

They are pretty birds. Only seen them in my garden twice and that was at another house.
Angie, that's typical! I have quantities of niger seed, which finches are supposed to love but it's never been touched. Then someone told me that they only take it from a hanging feeder, so made one; nothing doing!

They used to eat the Niger seed in my garden until they found the sunflower hearts. Two unopened packets of Niger seed gone to waste! I've read it doesn't have a very long shelf life and they can tell if it's off. Beats me how they can read the packet ;)

Carole, we have a Wren and a Dunnock, but they're so quick I shall never get a photo of them!
Put a sign out for them Angie - Sunflower hearts available 24/7 ... :o)
T'bear - I gave up with Niger seed as it began growing in the lawn and gave off a nasty pong too!

That is a great shot,Shirley..we have only seen ours once this year..but as the Magpies have now taken over the big conifer, they used to go in,I guess they are no longer with us :o(..I am stuck with a bag of Niger seeds too..and I also read they need to be fresh,or they won't touch them..might try some sunflower hearts instead..they came on a regular basis last year..

Right, sunflower hearts for me from now on. Your mention of a wren, Shirley, reminds me that I haven't seen ours this year. We always used to have one. We do have a dunnock, but it is visiting less frequently than it did a month or so back.

Thanks Sandra - I managed to get within about 3ft. of that bird - they must know that I come in peace and mean no harm! I saw three of them this morning - perhaps one is a young 'un? Swap your Niger seed for Sunflower hearts and they're sure to return!
T'bear - I don't know much about Wrens - perhaps they move house quite often! Parcel arrived yesterday and I'm about to PM you :o)

Bloomin' fussy eaters visiting your garden Sandra! There is a young Blackbird hopping in to our garden now - Megan cat was being dive-bombed by the parents the other evening - never seen Michael move so quick to grab her back indoors ... lol!
