Purple siberian iris - for my records

Purple siberian iris - for my records

Walking in the valley on our property couple of days ago I was shocked by this scene. We live here for 10 years and I have never noticed these before. I was going there next day to dig one or two out and They were no more. Obviously the deer had a lunch. That is why I did not notice them before. Deers have never touched my tall blue Siberian irises but have snacked on the whites and now leveled the purples. Interesting. Such is life in a deer country :-)

Those hungry deer don't discriminate. I'm glad I don't have to deal with them. If I were you, I would go back and try to dig up a few of the rhizomes - that's if the deer left them for you. I think they just eat the tops.

You can plant the rhizomes in your garden and have them for next year. Those would be a nice addition to anyone's garden. :)

Is not it amazing, we live here for 10 years and I did not know that they existed. I am in the vicinity quite often. I planted some fruit trees near by.
