we do too, Bloomer, and no idea why either!

The srub in front of it, at the left of the pic, is crowding it a bit - the gardener said it could go, to give the Pieris more room, it's a bit crowded. and that shrub is right up against another one behind it and crowding that too.

I agree,Fran,it does look as though your Pieris would benefit more..you could ask him to trim it back a bit,if there are straggly branches on it.I do mine ,in fact I gave them both a severe haircut last year, and took the thick branches well down to new growth. It will send up new ones from the bottom, especially if you give it a feed, and a good mulch.I don't know if you have other acid loving plants in your garden, but they prefer Ericaceous soil..My soil isn't,but I keep a bag of it,just for them, and the Camelia..It's well worth keeping, and low maintenance..One of my favourite shrubs :o)

I've no idea what kind of soil I have, Bloomer; i did think of getting one of those soil testing kits but then I don't suppose I'd have been able either to read or to understand the readings!

The Pieris is leaning to one side as the only way to get some room: I've no idea what that other plant is, but I'll try timming it a bit, at least, and see what happens - could wait for the gardener but should try some cautious experiments of my own.
