Have loved all your photos of your Hemerocallis, some more than others, this is nice to my eye!
Some questions, if you have time to answer, with all your pollinations!
Your own crosses? Or
Do you buy seeds from a specialist?
2 years from seed to flowering?
How many seedlings do you plant out in any one year? I note you have a allotment.
It appears from your comments that plants/flowers can improve subsequent years?
Is the code of your own record keeping?
Keep posting, they are a joy to see.Lol

Hi Siris glad you're enjoyimg the pictures :-)
I'm a member of the British Hosta and Hemerocallis Society and twice a year they distribute free seed to their members sent to them from the American Hemerocallis Society, which is seed donated by their members, you're allowed up to 25 packets and can pick from a huge list, so that's where all this years seedlings are from, the past couple of years I've also been sent seed from a lovely member on here Wylieintheazores, he has some amazing crosses, so next year will be more of his seedlings, very helpful member who I've learnt lots from, given me advice on which he thinks will make good crosses too :-)
Yes 2-3 years from seed in the UK, a lot of the 2012 seedlings didn't flower this year. I usually plant them out in their second year, you never know what the winters are going to be like, so like to get them to a reasonable size, they spend the first winter in my unheated greenhouse.
I've just been counting how many are on the allotment, eeeks, roughly a 100 each year I'd say, so 3 years on the go at the moment, you get on average 6 seeds per pack and the germination is very good I'd say 90%, I put them in bags of slightly damp vermiculite in the fridge till germination which can take up to 12 weeks but is usually much quicker, I've had them germinate in a week.
Yes the patterns and the forms can improve dramatically, as I've found from looking at Wylies seedlings, so mustn't be to hasty getting rid of any that look promising, there are probably only a handful from this year that really make me go Wow though so really those should be the ones I keep,I really need the space for this years, sometimes you're very lucky and every seedling from a cross is lovely, this one in particular, every seedling has been lovely so far and all totally different colours but all eyed and edged, so they are all keepers.
This year I've had quite a lot of success with my own crosses and lots of pods developing.
Wouldn't it be great to grow something really different and register it in your own name, its fun trying :-)
Yes the code is purely so I know which is which, the daylilies are all in rows on the allotment so R is the row number and N is which number along it is :-)
All my named varieties are in a huge bed in the garden all 188 of them!!!
