There is a lot there I agree, but, no, I don´t take them all in for the winter! We´d have to move out to make room for them if I did! :-D)
Some are hardy, others will die at the end of their season & others will be kept in the most sheltered corner of the balcony, which happens to be the left hand corner as you look at the balcony.

Well I hope we have a mild winter and a lot of them survive for you ... Have you always lived in Cambridge ? if you have do you remember a dance hall called Dorothy ? We use to often go dancing there when I lived at Little Thetford , you are probably not old enough !

Amy, I don't live in Cambridge - but I DO live in Cambridgeshire! Actually I've lived in Huntingdon, about 20 miles West of Cambridge, for the last 14 years!
I've visited the city on quite a number of occasions but I don't live there. My wife likes to wander round the colleges, a do I also! Her parents came over a couple of times from Spain to spend the month of August with us - but that was more than 30 years ago! They loved Cambridge & her dad in particular really loved Kings College! He once left a donation for the work there & signed the visitors' book as well.
I don't know the dance hall you refer to as I don't really know the city. As for not being old enough - well, I'm in my mid-sixties, is that old enough?

I know Huntingdon it was my weekly shopping place we lived at Bury near Ramsey after we married , mid sixties isn't quite old enough I have just reached 70 , you wouldn't know that dance hall unless you lived near Cambs . it's a fond memory of our young days ,it was in the city centre and had about 5 floors with a different kind of dancing on each floor , Jazz in the cellar ,rock & roll , etc until you reached the top floor with a proper orchestra for ball room dancing it was brilliant , no drunks or fighting either .. We still visit Cambs occasionally and like your family love the walks round the colleges , when our children were still at home we use to go Punting on the river at least once a year . Good old days Lol ...

We took my wife's family punting on the river also. We hired one of the guided tours so the guide cold explain things that we also translated into Spanish, except my wife, nobody else in my in-laws family speak any English.
While we were walking along the Backs, not far from the river, we heard a commotion coming in our direction but couldn't see anybody. After a few minutes a couple of punts came around a bend in the river - they were full of young Spanish people! They were shouting & laughing at the top of their voices - my parents-in-law felt very embarrassed that their fellow countrymen should carry on in such a way! They seemed to be having the time of their lives! :-D)

They needn't have worried Balcony everybody loves there fun days on the river Its hilarious especially when you are punting yourself with a picnic ,we have been there on days after the annual balls and seen the students lying all over the place asleep on the banks and green spaces still in full evening gowns / dress suits the next day , bottles and glasses everywhere , they are days of their lives that will live on in their memories forever when they eventually settle down hopefully into worth while jobs .. it use to only cost a few pounds years ago but we have been told it can cost as much as £80/100 to be chauffeured today .. its not all fun we have a friend whose first husband drowned in the river .. very sad ..
