buddleia Black Knight

buddleia Black Knight

140914 - the plant started looking a bit sad in the pot, so I took it out; the roots were rather tangled at the bottom, so I decided to give it some more room. At the bottom of the hold I put a sprinkle of all three of the soil improvers I have, hope I didn't put in too much, and that they don't compete

Looks OK Fran probably glad to be released from the pot.

thanks, Dorjac - I know I'm going to kill a lot of plants while I'm learning, but that's no reason to be blase about it! I put one of my Heurcheras in the planter instead.

Buddleia are pretty well indestructible Fran, the only thing they don't like is being waterlogged.

Agree with Angie...it will be beautiful there.

Thanks, Scottish and Karen. The only other Buddlieah I've tired is the new miniature "Buzz", and I managed to kill that - but the "how to" sites I went to said that the species is too new to get a good overview of.

I forked the soil in the bottom of the hold to provide drainage, put some fertiliser in, covered that and then planted. Also put some bark around it to prevent weeds from moving in - well, deter them, if nothing more.

I wasn't sure if it was the move or the time of year, when Bud's close down for the season.

Don't worry Fran. It's mostly worry that kills plants you know...well that's what I believe anyway. You're right about Buzz too...they are tricky. I lost one and the other one I had was weak.

thanks Karen. Considering how much space I didnt' have at my old garden, a proper Buddleai was out of the question.

lol if plants can be talked to to encourage them, sure that "worry aura" can be picked up, too!

Absolutely, I really believe it can. When I think of all the 'bad' gardening practice that my plants have thrown off over the years just because somehow they know that I love them....well, it just has to be true! There is a scientist called David Hamilton, he wrote a few books...the first is called 'It's the Thought That Counts'. His work is testament to the thinking that EVERYTHING benefits and thrives with love!

It certainly does! the only way to check it out scienticically would be to plant two idental beds with identical plants, then think positvely at one and negatively at the other. But what gardener would do that?

just thoguht: wonder how many plants there are in the gardens or homes of "problem families"?

Yes! And by the same token...how emotionally resilient must a dandelion be?!

12 Oct, 2014

oh, yes! they're armour-plated in more than one way!

So agree with you ladies. Over the years I've committed loads of garden faux pas, but they've come through with flying colours. I put it down to the fact that I chat to them...yes, I know...there's no hope for me is there?

lol that goes for a lot of us, Waddy, including Prince Charles! There's been some scientific studies to show that plants at one enf of a greenhouse show awareness when a plant at the other end is damaged, so they're picking up some kind of vibe. I try to remember to think positively, though it's not always easy when the @@!! weed won't come up!

22 Oct, 2014

Lol, do weeds count? :)

23 Oct, 2014

someone said that a weed whose attractive qualities haven't been properly appreciated yet - or that a weed is any plant growing in the wrong place!

They have to be tenacious, or they'd have been extinct ages ago. I should try sending "sod off " vibes at mine.

23 Oct, 2014

Oh I like that Fran, I'll try it!

23 Oct, 2014

lol HB, that's true! but then they usually get shouted at from a distance, where favourite plants get close-up chat, and so more of the CO2
