A nighttime photo of my Allamanda 'Cherries Jubilee'. It's been loaded with flowers in the very hot weather we've had. Unfortunately, I had to cut hundreds of flowers and buds off when I drastically cut the plant back about a month ago. It was taking over a huge part of the back yard. Photo taken Nov. 8, 2014.

Yes. But, I saw this plant grown as a nice, shrubby standard in South Florida. It looked so beautiful. It didn't appear to be cut back so drastically. In South Florida with all the high heat and humidity it most definitely would grow faster than in San Diego (so I thought).

I would have thought so too. As a hybrid is it possible for one of the parents to become more apparent under differing conditions?

Yes, it's true that hybrids can vary. However, most hybrids are usually faster growing. I think A. cathartica is the fastest growing out of all the species and hybrids, though. I wish I had a huge trellis on a south-facing wall for Allamanda cathartica.
