Caretaker shows off one of the haunts of Belvedere Castle, in Central Park, NYC. Bats of the genus Pteropus, belonging to the megabat suborder, Megachiroptera, are the largest bats in the world. They are commonly known as the fruit bats or flying foxes among other colloquial names.

This one turns into Dracula and cruises the park for a blood meal every night. I can hear the shrieks and screams of his victims late into the night.

Unfortunately these animals have a horrible stigma attached to them in part due to Hollywood.

My dear Bathgate, Hollywood is a soap opera regarding the fact, that they are the source or transmitt the most deadly diseases (Rabies, Ebola).

I suppose you are right Katarina. I was thinking in terms of blood-sucking vampires, Dracula and Transylvania.

I love bats and remember waking up and having one cruising round my head in the bedroom when we lived down the road. We tried to get it out of the bedroom but nothing succeeded so gave up until it started to keep on resting on Gerry's dressing gown hanging on the door. I got Gerry to wear the dressing gown and stand in the middle of the room and when the bat landed on his shoulder I backed Gerry to the open window and slid my hand between the bat and the dressing gown and it flew off out the window. This was a Pipestrel bat.

You are very brave. Many would go screaming from the house in hysterics. After attending this seminar, I've gained a new respect for them.

I have a great respect for the wildlife and have never been afraid of creepy crawlies and animals.

Neither have I. I'm very curious about them and how they fit into the ecosystem.

I feel sad about the amount we take from the planet, and that destroys the environment for the wildlife and us. The weather patterns are changing partly because of us with the emmisions and cutting of forests, although some of the weather is a natural cycle occurance and we haven't lived long enough to experience it. I also think that the sun's activity is another factor. We live on a fragile but beautiful planet and I wish people would only use the basics. We have become a throw away society.

I agree completely.

Great photo rolling on the floor laughing my head off here its the little fruit bats that suck your blood as of Dracula and Transylvania our Prince Charles has openingly admitted he is decentantly related to Dracular his family decend from him and Transylvanis truthfully. People who interbreed have to drink human blood its like a disease and the blood is the cure.
