Jacaranda

Jacaranda (Jacaranda)

Jacarandas are in a full bloom. Unfortunately I must be allergic to them. My eyes are itchy and always watering when they bloom.

I love these trees, Klahanie, but it's a shame they don't like the UK (I've never managed to grow one from seed). How annoying for you to have an allergy.

it is our last few weeks here Bjs. I am looking forward to see my rhododendrons and magnolias again.

Sheila, we cannot grow them on Vancouver island either :--( But they sure shine through the landscape here. Such a beautiful blue.

Love them wish we could grow them here.

I wish we could grow them on Vancouver Island too.

That's different. I only see them in yards. Out in the country its too cold for them. Closest look is from BART- our monorail -and you can see the tree's from up above. Like blue clouds in June.

They are most prominent trees in bloom now. They are everywhere. They bloom in June in SF? They are close to being over here.

In most of the bay area..San Francisco proper Klahanie the tree's do fine, its the lack of warm that creates spotty flowering. Its true that Jacaranda's on one street in SF might never bloom, while another around the corner and protected from that ocean breeze might have a decent bloom.
Only south of the Golden Gate do they get enough warm to cover themselves in bloom.
From what I'm told...they are in bloom about now in Tuscon or Phoenix, in early May in Los Angeles and mid June in the bay area.
When I see one of these tree's in bloom in the background of a TV commercial-whatever they are selling- I know it was filmed in May in Los Angeles-lol.

It looks great! Some of the millions of Jacarnda trees here are starting to bloom. They are starting to bloom early this year because of the unusually hot winter (just like last year). Typically, they bloom from late March - early July...then there's a second lighter bloom in late summer or early fall.

Stan, the trees in Los Angeles bloom earlier than May. They start usually in April. This year they will be blooming early in Los Angeles. It's true many Jacarnda trees have different blooming cycles (like African Tulip trees). There's one around the corner (from where I live) which is full of buds and should be in bloom very soon. My tree always blooms late (early to mid-April) it doesn't matter if it's almost 100ºF (38ºC) like it was today.

We had some big rains lately and high winds and it knocked most of the flowers from jacarandas down. It is still cloudy but at least the wind is not hauling. This was the worst winter we had in past 15 years we are coming here. This is their dry season and it is raining quite regularly. Hope the weather in San Diego will stay warm as we planning to stay there for couple of days on our way up at the end of this month. Maybe visit your botanical gardens.

So sorry to hear the weather has been rainy there. We will take the rain here in San Diego.

The weather has been so strange this year. Unusually hot and dry with virtually no snow in the Sierra Mountains. This is horrible news for the severe drought here in California.

We are actually hoping and praying for cooler weather with lots of rain. I can't imagine how strict the water rationing will be this coming summer. According to the state we only have enough water for about one year...that's it! Not sure what will happen if the drought persist past a year. :>((

Same up on the Island. No snow in higher elevations and worries about the drought and water rationing during the summer. They had less rain and milder winter.

Here, they had to close main highway to Mexico City the other day because of the snow and the local newspaper showed a snowy conditions on the roads here in Jalisco. Talk about crazy. .

It appears the weather has gone topsy-turvy the last several of years.

Maybe one day the weather will get back normal.

One town near the Olympic rain forest bills itself as the rainiest city in the world? 21 inches since Jan 1. Much for us,as you might think a dribble for them.

16 Mar, 2015

Victoria is in Olympic mountain rain shadow. That is why we have less rain than Vancouver for example.

I think the northwest is getting quite a bit of rain now.

We're still having very dry, and hot weather. I hope we receive more rain before the rainy season is done.

Good luck with that Delonix1.

Thanks! The long-range forecast is not good, though. We're heading into another record heat wave again this week. This is pretty much how it's been all winter.
