I have tried growing tulips several times. They will grow okay the first year; however, you can't keep them in the ground or they come up majorly deformed (very creepy looking).

Yes, we can grow hundreds of species of palms and bananas. I have some bananas which bloomed around Christmas and I have one flowering now. It's my 'Ice Cream' bananas. Unfortunately, my other bananas haven't received enough water to grow well or bloom this year. The severe drought has taken it's toll on dozens of my plants. I have lost several plants which I've had for more than 20 years. It's so sad! :>((
