"I'll have to buy one and show you how they really grow in the ground here."

Crap probably - it likes plenty of water!!!!!!

I reckon that is round one to me!!

LOL!!!!

It likes a lot of water in a pot. In the ground it doesn't need a lot of water; however, it grows fastest with a lot of water and fertilizer. It can typically grow to more than 6' (2m) within one year (where it grows in California). It grows as fast as Angel's Trumpets (Brugmansia).

With the historic, severe drought I've lost many plants...some I've had over 20 years. :>((

I can't joke about losing plants. I tend to lose them because of the cold though............

It's been so heartbreaking loosing so many of my plants to this horrible drought. It's getting worse by the day. Most of California's reservoirs are almost or are completely dry. We're in an unpresedented severe drought. The state water agencies are trying to scramble to find where to buy water. The biggest problem is that this severe drought is affecting all the of the Western States. We ultimately may have a gallon limit per day (per household or person) and if one goes over that limit the fines will be extremely high. This has never happened before.

The only good thing that's happened this week is that the weather had turned cooler. It's only been in the low 70's instead of those 80's and 90's we've had almost all winter.

Oh dear Delonix not good news!!

Dottydaisy2:

The historic drought situation is so severe I fear California will run out of water before fall. We can only pray a strong El Niño will develop, which should bring the west coast a lot of rain for winter of 2015/16.

Keep us posted, thinking of you Delonix will put up a prayer for you ....

Thank you! We will need all the prayers we can get. This is especially true for our 137 billion dollar a year agriculture. California produces the largest percentage of crops for the U.S. This year many crops are not being planted because the lack of water...even with the record number of wells being drilled in the Central Valley.

It is sounding horribly serious. I hope that you guys get a lousy cool summer with lots of rain.

"I hope that you guys get a lousy cool summer with lots of rain."

That would actually be very ideal. However, the last several months the temps have been well above normal. It's forecasted to get up to 87 degrees (31 degrees C) today...tomorrow will be warmer. The long-range forecast is for sunny, dry and warmer than normal.

As nice as that sounds it is clearly not what you need.

Mind you, I forgot to open the greenhouse this morning before I left for work. I remembered at 11.30, dashed home and it was 48°c in there!

Very true.

I've had that happen many times in my little dilapidated greenhouse, and it's in shade. The door has been open for years at this point (it can't close anymore). It really doesn't need to be closed, anyway. It's best not to have cooked plants. lol!
