My DH went shopping (without me) and in addition to groceries he came home with this.
British Origin
Parentage: yakushimanum X 'Fabia Tangerine'
I have couple more rhododendrons from this breeder (Waterer)
In the 1950s and 1960s breeding programs were carried out by Percy Wiseman and Gerald Pinkney at Waterer's Nurseries to produce many good plants breeding Yakushimanums with other hybrids.
Welcome home Percy

P. Wiseman is one of my best and favourite Rhodo's; I have had mine for about 20 years, it keeps its round compact form and is now full of buds which will open in about three weeks time. I also have the Yak. species
K. Wada which was used as seed parent by Mr Wiseman
to make his many lovely hybrids. I used K. Wada Yak. to produce my own "Suffolk Pink". Several years ago, I wrote a Magazine article about Yakushimanum; it is an interesting story of how Yak. was found in the mountains of Yakushima, and sent to England in 1939.
When my Rhodo's bloom, I shall post a blog, about this.
The small picture at the top of this comment, is Percy Wiseman!

Hi David. Thank you for your interesting info . I will be looking for your picture (blog) of your "Suffolk Pink".
I am heading to rhododendron festival today but I doubt that I would find 'Koichiro Wada' there. Hopefully there will be something interesting.
I have not realized that your avatar was Percy Wisemen.
