Cercis chinensis 'Don Egolf'

Cercis chinensis 'Don Egolf' (Cercis chinensis)

The best it has flowered since I got it 4 years ago. Not hardy here but since it doesn't get very big I have been able to keep it potted. Freezing temperatures arrived quickly last fall and may have killed the topmost part of the plant, I also may have fertilized too late in the season last year. Still a beautiful plant when flowering and common for flowers to cover the entire plant, even the trunk.

I like how it flowers on bare wood like that, very nice color too!

The flowers do have very nice color, more intense pink/purple than eastern redbud and they were starting to fade when I took this.

This one is small now but mature size is close to 9 feet tall, still only 1/3 the size of an average redbud. The best part is it doesn't get the ugly brown seed pods.
