The largest maple in Canada. It is very vigorous grower here and I can say quite invasive. I pull 100s of the out every year. Our forest have many of them around.
It is tough tree and takes no for an answer.
Our land is dominated by Douglas firs(Pseudotsuga menziesii), , Western red cedars (Thuja plicata), Arbutus tress(Arbutus menziesii), and Big leaf maples.... with salal (Gaultheria shallon) and Oregon grape (Mahonia aquifolium ) as the undergrowth. There are other trees but the ones I named are in majority.
In the fall it looks spectacular but raking up all the leaves is a chore. (or good exercise)

I agree Bathgate. Trees can be as beautiful as other plants and flowers when they are in a right spot..

It's a beautiful tree when in it's place. I have an acer redrum in my backyard. It doesn't get nearly this big but I love it on these hot summer days.
