Isn't this a beautiful gate.

We visited Hall Farm open garden yesterday, it's near Gainsborough. There was wrought iron work all around the garden, made by the blacksmith who has a workshop on the farm. I'm in the process of writing a blog about our recent travels but wanted to show you this now.

Hi Sheila, it's very nice, but would very likely get stolen around here, Derek.

I'd love to have a gate like that.

That is very clever particularly the individual flowers would have liked a close up of them, it is a professional interest really as I did my apprenticeship as a coppersmith then branched out into many other forms of metal work for 50 years, just memories now

So pretty and unique. I could see it in many of your pretty "English" gardens .

I've seen that gate Homebird! and I loved it too, remember asking about it and Pam Tatum, the owner, said it was made by her son, clever man, was the huge mushroom still at the entrance ? its a while since I've been, used to be my favourite nursery so sad when it closed, know they still open the gardens for charity.
www.IainTatum.com shows the Alice in wonderland inspired mushroom that was at the entrance ;-)

Yes the car park was to the left of the house and the giant mushroom was in the centre!, must have sold it.Shame you've only just discovered it the nursery was lovely,so many unusual perennials most grown in the gardens so you could see them growing as you were allowed to wander round when you visited, lovely lady and very helpful.I only knew they'd retired when I pulled up one day and the nursery had gone and was being planted !lol
The seed collecting day is usually September :-)

I loved Hall Farm Nursery when it was open, lots of their plants in my garden, only just up the road from me. :O) Pity it is closed but I do understand why, the lady retired, she was brilliant when you needed help and information.

Ah..this was my other option for my visit to Lincs...the old stables cottage. But its 8 miles from town, so a bit further from Mum. Looks lovely though. :)

It is always sad when a favourite nursery closes. I used to love Chesters Walled Garden (Hexham Herbs) near Hadrian's Wall, and was quite bereft when it closed!
