Ginger lily, reaching for the ceiling.

Ginger lily, reaching for the ceiling. (Hedychium (ornamental Ginger lily))

Flowerhead on one of 2 spikes of Hedychium, growing in my cool conservatory. The other spike has not open its buds yet. As it has hit the roof, am going to divide next spring and try 1/2 in a border in a sheltered spot.

Be prepared for them to go walkabout !! we took ours out of the borders, they are most difficult to site, so they are both in huge containers, outside!

The knobby (rhizome) is overflowing the pot, so I thought I would try half in the border in the front contained between the edge of the bungalow and the side wall.
Ps you asked what colour it was, yellowy and orange, like yours I think. Just looked back at your pic, does look the same, except yours has a denser flowerhead.

They're perfectly hardy outdoors and the scent is a delight.

Thanks meanie. When I went to Andrews open day, spoke about how he treated his Ginger outdoors in his border, which decided me to put mine outside as it is truly too tall for the conservatory.
