Hi Julia, yes. I apologize for the delay. I was away for work.

Hi Amy, unfortunately this is the world we live in today. I go through here twice a day, but I leave my fate in God's hands.

Hello Klahanie, I bet you are sipping a mint-lemonade over by the Louisiana Irises.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.

And a Happy Thanksgiving to you, Paul.

You wouldn't want to tangle with either of those characters!

Bathgate:

Happy Belated Thanksgiving!

It's terrible we have to live in such heightened alert in many areas of the U.S.!

Paul I have an article in this months gardening mag. about a place called.. The High Line.. which is situated 30 ft above the streets of New York its an old disused elevated railway line in Manhattan's Lower West Side its planted up with wild plants plus some not so wild plants for people to enjoy it runs from Gansevoort St through to West 34th St. I wondered if you had walked it ,it looks amazing what a wonderful use of an old railway line !

Hi Amy. Yes, I have seen The Highline and it's a very unique place that has breathed new life into that area of the city. If I'm in that area of the city, I will opt for walking the Highline. The cityscape views are amazing - especially at night. Mayor Guliani tried to have the old High Line torn down but it was saved by a privately funded grass-roots organization with a vision for the elevated park. I believe the idea came from a Park in France. I wrote a blog about the Highline last year. If you'd like to see it, here is the link.

I'm excited to think I know someone who has actually walked it Paul it looks to be a special place, a breath of fresh air ,there are a lot of pictures showing the line in flower in my magazine there is also talk of trying a similar project on an old line in the London area in the future . I did Google The High Line but am going to look at your blog as well ,I love the idea ...

I have the same watching over my garden. City life.

The Highline turned out to be a win win win for everybody and I think it's an ingenious use of space. Everybody uses it including tourists. Absolutely it is a breath of fresh air - imagine a wildflower meadow in the middles of Manhattan with bees, birds & butterflies. It's also nice to see many of the native plants return & reclaim their rightful place. It's got lots of nice restaurants, outdoor cafes & ice cream shop.

I'm very happy to hear that London may be following suit. It would be great if you can log the transformation. I'm sure the local community if very excited about it. It's a place for kids to play with worrying about traffic.

Hi Paul, been busy this summer and autumn, so haven't been on GOY much. Have a bit more time now that things are quieter in the garden. Happy belated Thanksgiving ! Hope it was a good one ?

Thank You Alan. I always enjoy hearing from an ole friend! Have you been mired in home improvement projects? A new trellis? Are those woodpeckers still coming around? I hope you and your family enjoy a happy & healthy holiday season.

30 Nov, 2015

Paul, nice to hear from you. You've hit the nail on the head". Major urgent work on the front of the house needed before the winter, has just been completed. Garden is more or less tidy and ready for winter. Whatever the season decides to give us this year. One of the parent woodpeckers still comes daily. Next project will be to get all the outdoor Christmas lights up in the garden, ready for our festive season. ?

Sounds like you're on top of things Alan - the lights really help to set the holiday mood, don't they? Two weeks ago a giant cement mixer delivered 2 tons of fresh concrete mix for my new patio. The truck backed into my driveway with barely and inch of clearance on either side. However, it crushed every single plant on both sides along the whole drive way - so i'll be creating some new planting beds in the Spring - never a dull moment around here.

Happy Thanksgiving Paul. In our town they have small lit Christmas trees set above the shops and usually have a large tree in the market place that on Christmas eve, carols are sung with a gathering of local people.
The policeman is there with his dog for protection, and with the situation in the world as it is at the moment, it's a good thing.

That's terrific Linda. I feel they deserve our utmost respect - enabling people to carry on with their daily lives. They are quite a force to be reckoned with and willing to put their own lives on the line.

Paul my last sentence was referring to the policeman in your picture with his dog, protecting the station and the public.
Our local police are very good and sometimes show their presence walking through the town. They are always friendly and approachable.
