Amy we dug 4 seedlings out of the ground, they were all over the garden where we were staying, popped them in a plastic bag, and OH potted them up, and this one took....so lucky indeed...
Dawn just lucky I guess.....just wish I knew which variety it was...

That is super Dd. Is it warm enough for scent?
My mother had a tree in her garden in Bournemouth, used to be covered in flowers, (not December if I remember)

They grow tall and fast here Angela...! ;o) Mine took years to flower and then when it did we had a terrible storm and it was uprooted and I lost it in full flower...! :(

It looks like Acasia baileyana or dealbata. They're very fast growing trees to 30' (10 m) tall in a few years here. It flowers in winter. These tree are extremely invasive in California along with A. melanoxylon, which becomes a giant monster to at least 70' (21 m) tall. At least A. baileyana tops out at 50' (16 m) with equal spread.

Angela, you will have to go back sometime to see the mother plant to see if you can ID it. (Hope it doesn't grow to 70' or even 50')

GF they were growing like weeds in the garden of the rented villa, it could well be either of those varieties Delonix, and Meanie.....
Petal we have nearly lost this one over the last couple of months it has now got a severe list!! and no foliage on the top, quite bare!
Siris I need a ladder to be able to enjoy the perfume...lol

Dottydaisy2:
How wide is the tree? I know they can grow quite wide in time. A nice shade tree.
