Aconite

bee food very useful , I only planted mine out about two weeks ago a 100 for £9.99 free p&p MAY HAVE BEEN TO LATE ?? do they seed easily as if only a few grow I could sprinkle the seeds about ... my 1st snowdrop is fully open today ....

Wow they will make a fantastic show Gg ,they seed very easily I have them growing all round the shrubs they have also spread into the gravel path beside the shrubs I have to be careful where I walk .... Your snowdrop is nice and early mine are through but not yet in flower ....

So pretty ,Amy.I planted the ones you gave me,about couple of months ago.sorry,I had forgotten about them in the shed..I must have a look to see if they are appearing..:o) x

If they don't come up this year they will next Sandra ,Good luck you may find an odd bloom :o))

Amy you make that sound easy have never managed to settle them in my garden,have had several tries over the years,of course it could be the same rodents that eat all the crocus you know the ones with big tails that people say aren't they sweet

I've never grown these even though they are among the earliest of winter/spring bulbs to flower. I've seen them in people's gardens here as well as growing wild, just like Snowdrops, but why don't we see Crocuses growing wild?

In some gardens I've seen a very pale blue/lavender colour Crocus that appears to be very fragile but must be as hard as nails as it often appears in peoples lawns & gravel driveways. It's very obviously self-sown from it's distribution besides, who would it occur to to sow them in their gravel driveways? :-D)

So early Amy, I've checked mine and no sign so far but lots of buds on shrubs.

Brian we have those nasty little furry creatures in our garden but ours are more interested in stealing the bird food ... Balcony maybe its those little furry creatures Bjs mentions would they plant the bulbs in gravel as an easy to find store for winter , I must be very lucky my ground is yellow with blooms they are everywhere and have self seeded into the paths beside the bushes I have to look where I'm stepping so as not to tread on them , I hope your soon start to bloom Dawn once they get going they should be better another year ...

We had our first one, and might be our only one, come through over a week ago, although we planted loads!! I do hope they spread, they have never done in the past though!!

Did, I understand that the dry corms don't establish well if transferred. I bought a small pot in the green last year, will have to see how that does.

Not heard that one before, as you say we shall see.....

I don't know about that Sue ,I gave some dry corms to Bloomer last year she has only recently remembered to plant them it will be interesting to see if they grow or not in the future , coming home through my gate this afternoon I noticed an Aconite in flower it must be a good hundred metres from my other patch in the garden ... how do they spread that distance ...

Seed Amy, I beleve if they establish well and are happy they can increase into carpets, if then left undisturbed.

Thats true Sue mine are spreading happily , there is an old vicarage on the outskirts of Norwich I always look to see it each year as the whole frontage of the garden must be an acre or two is covered in Aconites I put a photo of them on here one year ,I'll have a look next time I go into the city ...
