Amy I may have given you this one i don't remember ,there must be hundreds of them in the garden ,looking at an on line list last night they are still asking £5 a bulb for it.
And another one called 'Three Ships'(Flowers at Christmas) they want £25 for a bulb Must be at least twenty of those in the garden.
Not sure who pays these inflated prices not me.

Yes, we have similar problem Brian, but thankfully our Son is still resident with us, and a very kind Dental Nurse of OH is an animal lover, so she's walking them for us. But its getting harder to meet their needs and have holidays together.

Brian you gave me Galanthus Atkinsii which is doing very nicely thank you , In the new "The Garden " mag this month there's an article about a Cambridge nurseryman Joe Sharman who has earned the nickname of Mr Snowdrop it shows beautiful photos of them apparently a new bulb Golden Fleece was on sale on ebay and fetched £ 1,390 ... a world record ... he grows at Monksilver Nursery,Cottenham ...
I wish you lived nearer Brian we would love to look after Jamie we still miss our lovely old dog Barney ...

I know the man's name and Monksilver name crops up a lot as for that money for a snowdrop, probably some one like Thompsons and Morgan.
they are not like a rose where there are many shapes and colours ,snowdrops are either white and green .white and yellow.or white and white.with small differences in the shape and markings of the flowers, don't get me wrong I love to see them at this time of year,it is a bit like collecting Stamps except they don't increase in numbers on there own.

I agree Brian. I love snowdrops, but could never get obsessed by them!

Brian I'm getting quite confused with these Galanthus I also have a G. Reginae-Olgae an autumn flowering one which I believe you sent me , I think I might have this one in your photo does it grow with a very tall stem if so it's in bud now .

Amy
it is often up to 12 high and in bud or flower around now .
Regina Olgae normally flowers oct-Nov and average 6in high.
I better not offer you to many different ones otherwise you will be totally confused especially if you loose the labels.
I don't remember when i gave it you.
now for the tec bit if you look at the green bit on the inner petals you will see the green marking is angled from the top of the flower down if that angle is 90 deg (square ) it is Galatea ,if it is more like 60 deg it is probably Atkinsii .
Just thought you should know that lol, as both grow in my garden
Picky isn't it.
although I have a few that are quite distinct I wonder how many of the so called experts would identify very many without the labels.

That is the kind of info I find very valuable Bjs. I am saving this one in favourites. I do not seem to be able to keep labels in place. If the sun does not fade them, they blow away or the birds haul them out. I keep meaning to write the names on stones and varnish them but there are not enough hours in the day. A job for the grandchildren next time they visit.
