Black Spruce

Black Spruce

Native to Alaska, this is how it's most happiest! :). Maybe I should visit my brother in Daytona Beach, Florida!

Do you shake the snow off some shrubs to preserve their shape ?

I do with my junipers, but the spruce has thick sturdy branches it's fine without me. It makes quite a picturesque setting.

Yes, some trees can withstand the weight of the snow.

Hi Gnarly ... yes I find branches on some of my conifers get weighed down if overloaded with snow.

This storm has high winds. I'll go out once it ends - tomorrow! It's too dangerous to go out there now. All the roads and airports are shut down. Only emergency vehicles are allowed on the roads.

Thanks Gg - I have plenty to do inside - play with my cat, Costello.

Keep safe, Paul and Costello. x

Pretty picture (from inside)

I ventured outside for this on Klahanie. I wanted to see if the storm was as fierce as they were saying on TV. Yep - they were putting it mildly. :(

You are more brave than I would be. I do not think that the spruce mind the cold.

Forgot to say,I love the Tree too :o)

No, these are native to your area - Canada - Alaska. They don't do well unless covered in snow for winter. It keeps them free of bugs and disease. I'm sure you see many of these up north.

At least its made one tree happy for what we hope is a brief spell !

Thanks Sandra - thanks, this little tree becomes a focal point in winter. It keeps to a straight and narrow 'footprint' - I love it covered in snow.

Thanks Amy it's definitely happy in this weather - standing tall and green under the snow pak.

Wow! Lots of snow. I heard there was a horrible, big blizzard there in New York City.

26 Jan, 2016

Yep, we've had over 2.5 feet. It was a killer storm - literally.

Luckily, it's over.

We have a really big storm coming into Southern California tomorrow (Jan 31st). It suppose to bring very high winds and lots of rain, which we need so badly! :>)

31 Jan, 2016

That's good news. I hope it's not too bad.

I hardly got any rain here (where I live) some areas had a lot (where severe thunderstorms developed). However, the winds were very damaging. There was a tremendous amount of damage due to the winds yesterday and all last night. The 40 to 75 mph winds uprooted so many trees throughout SD County. The county is a big mess (palm fronds and branches everywhere). Today will be a clean up up day in my back and front yards.
