Black Ficus elastica. (Ficus elastica "Decora")

This makes a great house plant also. It is just as black in a bright room as it is outdoors.

It's Ficus eleastica 'Decora' 'Burgundy'. It's looking good, it just needs to be shaped.

My sister had one as a giant houseplant for years...stayed jet black.
She put out it outside under her patio one year as it got too big,but she couldnt bring herself to cut it.
Wouldnt you know- that was 1990. Even I felt the pain when it died.

I had two Ficus eleastica 'Decora' 'Burgundy' when I lived in Hayward. They were planted in 1988 (in the ground) and were two beautiful 10' trees. I cut the lower branches so they would be actual trees. I tried to cover and protected them in the Dec. 1990 freeze. Unfortunately, they both died! They never even came back from the roots or big branches like most of the large ones around the Bay Area did that spring.
I was so sad! :>((

I also lost an absolutely gorgeous Ficus auriculata (Roxburgh Fig). It was in a 20 gallon pot. I was so devastated because I loved that tree. I had purchased it as a gallon plant from Berkeley Horticulture in 1985. It wasn't then and still is not a common plant to buy (especially in a gallon container) even in San Diego. If I'm not mistaken I paid $10.00 for the plant, which was very cheap.
