Klahanie:
It's gorgeous! I love Heliconia!
I only have two Heliconia species left growing outside. I used have many more before the the last 7 year drought (Heliconias hate drought conditions!). My Heliconias didn't flower last year because of the drought.

These are gorgeous flowers Delonix1, Shame that they did not flowered for you last year. I do not particularly like the huge leaves. Do they bloom at this time in San Diego? How is this year shaping up?

It depends on the species of Heliconia when they flower. Many can bloom in early spring or fall through winter.
I used to have 7 or 8 species of Heliconia. Most died from drought conditions. They bloom here in early spring or fall...it depends on the species. I need to give my plants heavy feedings. They are referred to as fertilizer hogs (or gross feeders). They do love a lot of water. Many Heliconia species are native to areas along very fertile streams.

The east might have slowed it down, but its in perfect condition without a hotter exposer beating down on it.
Is that one of "Lobster claw types" Klahanie?
