Does it have a spicy scent Klahanie ?

Amy, the leaves of the allspice tree have more aroma than the allspice itself. I bring few leaves in and it smells in the kitchen like something between cinnamon clove and nutmeg together. Very pleasant and strong smell. It only lasts a day or so.

Me too Amy, I always have a rosemary, fennel, parsley or dill in the vase in kitchen.

I got a message today from a fellow Haywardian Klahanie and he said that he's got a 3' flowering Sapodilla.
You have any taste experience? What does the tree at size look like? google doesn't have that much. I need real world reports!

I am afraid that I will not be able to help you here Stan. I do not think that Sapodilla is local native or common here. More south... on Yucatan or coast around Manzanillo?

It calls chico sapote here or just chico or sometimes zapota .
I know when the tree is bigger they tap them like for maple syrup and make chiclets from it (chewing gum)
Little 4-5 years old boys are selling the chewing gum on beaches and around the town.

I've never tasted the fruit. Apparently it tastes like pear with brown sugar. Sorry.
I would probably buy the tree ...if it is not too expensive... and keep it trimmed all the time.

This is what I read on the web:
"fairly slow-growing, long-lived tree, upright and elegant, distinctly pyramidal when young"

Ah,Chiclets!. I forgot about those. When I was a kid, every Mexican movie had in the background someplace- advertising for them. Same for Soccer(FOOTBALL) stadiums all over Mexico.
They are ok..not sure why the passion-ha.

Klahanie:

Your Allspice tree is flowering early. My tree won't flower until March or April.

Interesting.

Klahanie:

It's so funny! I just noticed today, my Allspice tree has buds forming now. LOL! I could remember when it bloomed last year. I'll have to look up my pics from last year.
